Job Description

The Senior Superintendent will be responsible for:

  • Coordinate and oversee all construction activities and trades in conjunction with the project management team.
  • Lead day-to-day field operations and ensure work is progressing according to schedule, plans, and specifications.
  • Manage and coordinate subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and site personnel.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce project schedules to ensure milestones are met.
  • Review architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and landscape drawings and specifications.
  • Identify potential conflicts or constructability issues and coordinate solutions with the project team.
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, testing reports, and inspection documentation.
  • Prepare, track, and follow up on RFIs and ensure timely resolution of field issues.
  • Arrange, coordinate, and be present for required agency and municipal inspections.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Senior Project Managers to maintain project budgets, schedules, and overall project objectives.
  • Coordinate daily manpower, material deliveries, equipment, and subcontractor activities.
  • Communicate effectively with design professionals, subcontractors, project managers, owners, and local officials.
  • Proactively identify and resolve field conflicts, delays, and coordination issues.
  • Maintain a high standard of quality control throughout all phases of construction.
  • Conduct regular site walks and monitor work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and company standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional job site.
  • Enforce company and OSHA safety standards and promote a strong job-site safety culture.
  • Prepare daily reports, progress updates, and project documentation.
  • Maintain accurate progress photographs and field records.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide updates on schedule, manpower, quality, and potential issues.
  • Assist with project closeout, punch list completion, inspections, and turnover.
  • Utilize computer systems and construction technology, including Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, PDFs, and other project management platforms.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors and project partners.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to Assistant Superintendents, Project Engineers, and other field staff.
  • Represent the company professionally with owners, clients, inspectors, and trade partners.

The Successful Applicant

The Senior Superintendent will have:

  • 8+ years of experience in commercial ground-up construction.
  • Proven experience leading complex commercial construction projects from start to finish.
  • Strong understanding of the full construction process, including preconstruction, mobilization, execution, and closeout.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple trades and subcontractors on active job sites.
  • Proficiency in reviewing and interpreting architectural, structural, civil, MEP, and other construction documents.
  • Strong understanding of project specifications, drawings, schedules, and contract documents.
  • Proven ability to identify constructability issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of construction sequencing, scheduling, and project coordination.
  • Excellent communication skills with management, subcontractors, consultants, architects, vendors, inspectors, and clients.
  • Ability to lead and motivate field teams while maintaining accountability.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA and job-site safety requirements.
  • Ability to maintain project schedules and proactively address potential delays.
  • Experience coordinating inspections, testing agencies, and local officials.
  • Ability to review submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and other project documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate project records.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Comfortable utilizing construction management software and digital project documentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Project Managers, Senior Project Managers, and Assistant Superintendents.
  • Willingness to take ownership of projects and go above and beyond to meet project goals.
  • Ability to effectively manage changing priorities and take on multiple responsibilities.
  • Strong commitment to completing projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to build strong, long-term relationships with clients and trade partners.
