Job Description

Reporting directly into the CTO, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Drive product development from concept through commercialization, ensuring compliance with FDA and ISO design controls.
  • Design complete spinal instrument systems for procedures, including trials, inserters, distractors, reduction tools, and minimally invasive workflows.
  • Partner with surgeons and key opinion leaders to gather feedback and tailor instruments to surgical needs.
  • Participate in labs and operating room observations to optimize ergonomics, usability, and workflow.
  • Collaborate with implant design teams to ensure seamless integration and system-level performance.
  • Create CAD models incorporating biomechanics and design-for-manufacturing principles.
  • Manage timelines, risks, and cross-functional communication across engineering, quality, regulatory, and manufacturing.
  • Conduct verification and validation activities, including mechanical testing, FEA, and usability assessments.
  • Maintain design documentation such as DHF, specifications, drawings, and risk files.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Spinal Implant Instruments Development Engineer should have:

  • 3+ years of experience designing and developing spinal implant instrumentation.
  • Direct experience designing and developing spinal implant instrumentation.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for design and modeling purposes.
  • Experience partnering with surgeons and working/observing in cadaver labs.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials used in spinal instruments.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a detail-oriented mindset.
