Job Description

  • Lead the development and optimisation of manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, cost, and throughput
  • Act as the technical authority for welding processes, standards, and best practices
  • Develop, qualify, and improve welding procedures across a variety of fabrication methods
  • Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) initiatives and provide manufacturing input during product development
  • Design and implement tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing aids to support production excellence
  • Support automation and robotic welding projects, including equipment selection and process development
  • Analyse and resolve production challenges using structured root-cause problem-solving techniques
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and operations teams to establish robust manufacturing standards
  • Evaluate supplier capabilities and support make-versus-buy decisions
  • Create and maintain work instructions, process documentation, and operating procedures
  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • Extensive experience within manufacturing, fabrication, welding, or welded assembly environments
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and CAD/CAM systems
  • Experience implementing automated or robotic welding solutions
  • Proven ability to improve manufacturability through DFM principles and process optimisation
  • Knowledge of multiple welding processes including SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, laser, and electron beam welding
  • Experience working with materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium, titanium, or high-nickel alloys
  • Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement experience
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work effectively across engineering, production, quality, and supply chain teams
