A large North American manufacturing organization is seeking a VP of Labor & Employee Relations to lead enterprise-wide labor and employee relations strategy across a multi-site manufacturing network in the U.S. and Canada. This executive will serve as a key advisor to senior leadership, HR, Operations, Legal, and plant management teams, helping shape workforce strategy, mitigate organizational risk, and foster a high-performing employee culture.

Job Description

  • Lead enterprise-wide labor relations strategy, including collective bargaining negotiations and union engagement.
  • Advise executive and operational leaders on labor relations, employee relations, investigations, discipline, organizational change, and workforce planning.
  • Oversee grievance management, arbitration preparation, contract interpretation, and labor-related legal matters.
  • Develop proactive employee relations strategies that promote engagement, trust, retention, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Establish governance frameworks, playbooks, training programs, and reporting tools to drive consistency and accountability across locations.
  • Partner closely with HR, Operations, Legal, Finance, and Total Rewards teams to support effective workforce management and business performance.
  • Monitor labor and employment law trends and translate regulatory requirements into practical business solutions.

The Successful Applicant

A successful VP of Employee Relations should have:

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in labor relations, employee relations, human resources, employment law, or a related field.
  • Significant experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, distribution, logistics, or other multi-site operational environments.
  • Demonstrated first chair success leading collective bargaining negotiations and managing union relationships.
  • Strong expertise in grievance handling, arbitrations, workplace investigations, and employee relations matters.
  • Ability to travel up to 70% of the time.
  • Strategic yet hands-on leadership style with the ability to influence at both the executive and site levels.
