Job Description

  • Lead all field operations for bridge construction, rehabilitation, and structural infrastructure projects.
  • Manage and supervise craft labor, foremen, subcontractors, and equipment operators on-site.
  • Coordinate daily and weekly construction activities to ensure adherence to project schedules and milestones.
  • Review project plans, specifications, contracts, and work packages to ensure accurate execution.
  • Monitor productivity, manpower requirements, equipment utilization, and material deliveries.
  • Conduct daily site inspections to ensure compliance with quality standards and project specifications.
  • Enforce OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and environmental requirements.
  • Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site-specific training initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, Owners, and Inspectors to resolve project challenges and maintain progress.
  • Manage work involving concrete structures, bridge foundations, steel erection, demolition, pile driving, retaining structures, and roadway tie-ins.
  • Identify and mitigate risks that could impact safety, schedule, or budget performance.
  • Prepare daily reports, progress updates, and documentation related to field activities.
  • Support project planning, sequencing, and scheduling efforts to maximize efficiency and minimize delays.
  • Ensure all work complies with DOT, municipal, and owner requirements.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Civil Construction Bridges Superintendent should have:

  • 8+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, with significant bridge construction or bridge rehabilitation experience.
  • Proven experience as a Superintendent, General Superintendent, Foreman, or similar field leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of bridge construction methods, structural concrete, steel erection, foundations, pile driving, and infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, schedules, and contract documents.
  • Extensive understanding of construction sequencing, logistics planning, and resource management.
  • Knowledge of NJDOT standards, transportation infrastructure projects, and public-sector construction requirements preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage diverse field teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and decision-making abilities.
  • OSHA 30 certification required; additional safety certifications are highly desirable.
  • Proficient with construction management software and reporting tools.
  • Ability to work in active construction environments and travel to project sites throughout New Jersey.
