This position will play a critical role in the preconstruction process by preparing accurate cost estimates, evaluating project risks, soliciting subcontractor pricing, and helping secure profitable work.

Job Description

  • Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs from plans, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Develop comprehensive estimates for civil construction projects.
  • Analyze project scopes, risks, schedules, and bid requirements.
  • Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier proposals.
  • Prepare conceptual, budgetary, and hard-bid estimates.
  • Perform cost analyses for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities and alternative construction approaches.
  • Coordinate with project management and operations teams during bid preparation.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as required.
  • Maintain current market pricing for labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Assist with bid submissions, proposal development, and project turnover following award.
  • Support business development efforts by helping identify competitive opportunities.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Civil Estimator should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of estimating experience within civil construction.
  • Strong background in site development, utility installation, earthwork, grading, paving, or infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
  • Experience preparing estimates for projects valued from $1M to $50M+.
  • Proficiency with estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, Agtek, Bluebeam, Bid2Win, or similar platforms.
  • Advanced Excel and analytical skills.
  • Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and production rates.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
