Job Description

  • Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports
  • Solicit and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes
  • Develop cost estimates using estimating software and historical data
  • Review project scope to identify gaps, risks, and value engineering opportunities
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and subcontractors
  • Prepare and present bid proposals and supporting documentation
  • Collaborate with project managers during handoff and preconstruction phases
  • Monitor market conditions (materials, labor, fuel) to adjust estimates
  • Ensure compliance with local codes, environmental regulations, and permitting requirements
  • Analyze productivity rates and equipment usage for accurate costing
  • Support change order pricing and project cost tracking during construction
  • Maintain organized estimate files and continuously improve estimating processes

The Successful Applicant

  • Strong understanding of civil construction methods (earthwork, utilities, paving, drainage)
  • Proven experience performing accurate quantity takeoffs and cost estimates
  • Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., HCSS, Bluebeam, Agtek, or similar tools)
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and soil reports
  • Experience managing bids from initial review through final submission
  • Solid knowledge of local construction costs, labor rates, and material pricing
  • Effective communicator who can collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines
  • Commercial awareness to identify risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving strategies
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with vendors and subcontractors
  • Self-motivated, deadline-driven, and capable of working independently or within a team
  • Familiarity with permitting requirements, codes, and environmental considerations
  • Experience supporting project handoff and transition into construction phases
