Job Description

The Controller will lead all accounting and financial reporting functions across development and operating entities. This individual will play a key role in financial oversight, project cost control, and strategic decision‑making, while building scalable processes to support growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable (limited AR), payroll, and financial reporting
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes with accuracy and timeliness
  • Prepare and present GAAP‑compliant financial statements
  • Develop and manage project‑level and company‑wide budgets, forecasts, and cash flow models
  • Monitor construction and development costs against budgets and projections
  • Own percentage‑of‑completion accounting, construction draw management, and lender reporting
  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls, policies, and procedures
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and CPAs for annual filings
  • Prepare monthly financial presentations for ownership
  • Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting team as the organisation scales
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred)
  • 7-12+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
  • Significant experience within real estate development and/or property management
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, construction accounting, and development finance
  • Proven experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
  • Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g. QuickBooks or similar) and advanced Excel
