About Our Client

Our client is a well-established manufacturing company based in Manhattan, NYC that is experiencing continued growth and investing in its finance and accounting leadership team. They are seeking a hands-on Controller to lead accounting operations, financial reporting, cost accounting, and process improvement initiatives while partnering closely with executive leadership to support the company's strategic objectives.

Job Description

The key responsibilities of the Controller are:

  • Lead all accounting and financial reporting activities for the organization.
  • Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
  • Own inventory and cost accounting functions within a manufacturing environment.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Partner with operations leadership to analyze manufacturing costs and improve profitability.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives.
  • Manage cash flow, working capital, and financial performance reporting.
  • Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary contact for external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with all tax, regulatory, and reporting requirements.
  • Drive process improvements and identify opportunities for operational efficiencies.
  • Oversee and mentor the accounting team, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to support strategic business decisions and company growth.

The Successful Applicant

The successful Controller will:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation preferred but not required.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Senior Accounting Manager, or similar leadership role.
  • Strong manufacturing industry experience, including cost and inventory accounting.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Proven experience managing month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and helping drive system improvements.
  • Ability to analyze manufacturing costs and identify opportunities for improved profitability.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with experience developing accounting staff.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to partner effectively with executive leadership.
  • A hands-on, detail-oriented approach combined with a strategic business mindset.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated track record of improving processes, strengthening controls, and supporting business growth.
