The Director of Quality is a strategic and hands-on leader responsible for building and sustaining a strong food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance culture within a manufacturing organization. This role owns the end-to-end Quality function across internal manufacturing operations and external partners, ensuring the consistent production of safe, high-quality finished goods that meet regulatory, certification, and company standards.

Job Description

  • Lead food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance programs in alignment with FDA, USDA Organic/NOP, SQF, and applicable state and international regulations.
  • Drive a proactive quality culture through effective leadership, training, accountability systems, and engagement.
  • Own and continuously improve the Food Safety Plan, HACCP, Preventive Controls, GMPs, and related compliance programs.
  • Lead and oversee Quality Assurance and Quality Control programs across internal manufacturing operations, co-manufacturers, and suppliers.
  • Serve as SQF Practitioner (or equivalent) and lead certification efforts, audits, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Act as executive owner for recall readiness, crisis management, and regulatory response.
  • Lead root cause analysis, CAPA development, implementation, and verification.
  • Define, track, analyze, and report quality KPIs across manufacturing sites and partners.
  • Develop and manage supplier quality programs, including audits and performance monitoring.
  • Monitor regulatory trends and proactively update policies and procedures to maintain compliance.
  • Develop and manage the quality budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Oversee packaging and product safety compliance, including material integrity and validation programs.
  • Manage label compliance, claims substantiation, and regulatory review for new product launches.
  • Partner with R&D, Operations, and Supply Chain to integrate quality throughout product development and commercialization.
  • Establish quality standards and validation protocols for new ingredient sourcing.
  • Maintain effective communication with employees, contractors, suppliers, and external partners at all levels.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Director of Quality should have:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 15+ years of quality leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Food and beverage manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing or overseeing third-party manufacturing or co-manufacturing partners.



Required certifications or qualifications include:

  • SQF Practitioner
  • PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual)
  • HACCP
  • Internal Auditor
  • Juice HACCP experience preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent organizational abilities.
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, influence cross-functional partners, and drive results.
  • Willingness to travel periodically to manufacturing partner sites.
