A rapidly growing medical technology organization is seeking a senior engineering leader to oversee electrical, systems, and biomedical engineering efforts for complex, life‑critical devices. This role is responsible for setting the technical vision, leading a high‑performing team, and ensuring electrical designs are executed to the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.This position is fully onsite, five days per week.

Job Description

  • You will directly manage senior‑level electrical, systems, and biomedical engineers, including performance reviews, mentoring, and professional development planning.
  • You will oversee external design partners, contractors, co‑ops, and interns as needed.
  • You will continuously reinforce best practices and awareness of state‑of‑the‑art electrical technologies, components, development methodologies, and EDA tools.
  • You will own the electrical architecture, design, and testing strategy for next‑generation electromechanical medical systems, ensuring alignment with product requirements and global regulatory standards.
  • You will provide hands‑on technical leadership and strategic guidance to internal and external engineering teams supporting new development, sustaining engineering, complaint investigations, and component obsolescence.
  • You will actively contribute to design efforts, including electrical concepts, prototyping, and detailed circuit and system designs for both new and existing products.
  • You will define electrical design requirements and specifications and ensure robust documentation including design reviews, theories of operation, DFMEAs, and full release packages with fabrication and assembly outputs.
  • You will lead verification and validation activities for electrical subsystems, including protocol development and execution using both internal test resources and third‑party laboratories.
  • You will develop scalable manufacturing test strategies, fixtures, and process controls to support reliable production.
  • You will support contract manufacturers supplying PCBAs and electronic components, ensuring technical alignment and quality performance.
  • You will investigate and resolve field issues through root cause analysis and implementation of effective corrective actions.
  • You will set and track departmental goals, manage project plans, budgets, and schedules, and collaborate closely with Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, and Regulatory teams.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Director of Electrical System Engineering should have:

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Ten or more years of electrical design experience within regulated medical devices.
  • At least three years of experience leading engineering teams.
  • Hands‑on experience with Class II or Class III medical devices developed under IEC 60601.
  • Strong knowledge of medical device regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Proven experience designing and verifying complex digital and analog systems, including microprocessor‑based electromechanical designs, analog front ends, motor control, communications interfaces, power electronics, and battery systems.
  • Experience with lithium‑ion battery pack design.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex R and D programs from early concept through commercialization.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Altium, OrCAD, or Allegro PCB Designer.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to operate independently while driving results.
  • Project management certification or equivalent experience managing complex development programs.
