Job Description

  • Manage all day-to-day field operations on heavy highway construction projects.
  • Coordinate and supervise field personnel, subcontractors, vendors, and equipment resources.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules to ensure milestones and completion dates are achieved.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to track budgets, production goals, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, permits, and contractual requirements.
  • Lead daily safety meetings, enforce company safety policies, and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Monitor productivity, quality control, and project progress to identify and resolve issues proactively.
  • Coordinate inspections with owners, engineers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation including daily reports, manpower logs, and production tracking.
  • Manage construction activities related to earthwork, roadway construction, utilities, drainage, concrete, paving, structures, MOT/traffic control, and related infrastructure work.
  • Participate in project planning, sequencing, and procurement efforts.
  • Mentor and develop field personnel to support workforce growth and succession planning.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Heavy Highway Superintendent should have:

  • 8+ years of heavy highway or heavy civil construction experience, including leadership responsibility on large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience supervising roadway, highway, bridge, site development, utility, or transportation construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, scheduling, and productivity management.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules.
  • Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations and construction safety best practices.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with project reporting and construction management software is preferred.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple crews and subcontractors in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to project execution.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
