Becoming a project manager requires both qualifications and technical skills. Work experience in the given field or sector is preferred, especially for senior roles, as well as a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university or educational background in architecture, engineering, or construction management.
Project managers should also have proficiency with Procore and Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project) and possess the ability to read plans and specifications required. Expertise with web-based project management and bidding platforms is also advantageous.
Aside from the more technical elements of project management, the ideal candidates also need to command strong customer service skills, as well as communication and leadership skills. A successful project manager can lead their teams by example, with time management at the forefront. Additionally, competitive candidates will also be skilled in proposal writing and budget planning.
