Our client is a well-established, employee-owned commercial construction company with more than 100 years of history. The organization has experienced significant growth over the past several years and has expanded its presence across Ohio. Despite that growth, they've maintained exceptionally strong employee retention and a leadership team that is known for being accessible, supportive, and invested in long-term employee development. The HR Manager will serve as the lead HR partner for the Columbus office, supporting employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, onboarding, recruiting, and employee engagement initiatives. The role works closely with managers and business leaders across the organization and offers significant visibility and autonomy.

It's an ideal role for someone who enjoys building relationships, operating autonomously, and making a visible impact on company culture and employee experience.This position is full-time on-site in Columbus, Ohio. HR experience in construction is highly preferred.

Job Description

  • Serving as the primary HR contact for a regional office.
  • Manage recruitment processes, including sourcing, screening, and onboarding new hires.
  • Coordinating new hire onboarding and orientation activities.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations.
  • Benefits administration, open enrollment, and leave management support.
  • Supporting both office-based and field employees across active construction projects.
  • Supporting workforce planning and organizational growth initiatives.
  • Leading and participating in HR projects and company-wide initiatives.
  • Traveling periodically to other Ohio offices for leadership and HR meetings.

The Successful Applicant

A successful HR Manager should have:

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience.
  • HR experience in construction is highly preferred.
  • Experience supporting both salaried and hourly workforces, including union environments, is highly preferred.
  • This individual should be confident working independently as the primary HR contact for a regional office while partnering closely with leadership and a corporate HR team.
  • The ideal candidate is relationship-driven, approachable, and highly visible, with the ability to build trust and credibility at all levels of the organization.
