Due to continued growth, our client is seeking a Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager to join their team in Itasca, IL. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an early to mid-career construction professional to gain exposure to all aspects of project management while working alongside experienced Project Managers and Superintendents on impactful K-12 and public-sector projects.

Our client is a highly respected General Contractor specializing in K-12 education, municipal, and public-sector construction projects throughout the Chicagoland area. With decades of experience and a strong reputation for delivering high-quality community-focused projects, they are a trusted partner to school districts, municipalities, park districts, and public agencies across the region.

Job Description

  • Support Project Managers in the execution of K-12 and public-sector construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Manage submittals, RFIs, change orders, meeting minutes, and project documentation.
  • Assist with project scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, owners, subcontractors, and field personnel.
  • Review construction documents and assist in identifying potential project issues.
  • Track procurement activities and long-lead materials.
  • Assist with subcontractor buyout and contract administration.
  • Participate in project meetings and maintain action item logs.
  • Support project closeout activities, punch lists, and warranty documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred.
  • 1-5 years of experience with a General Contractor, Construction Manager, or related construction organization.
  • Experience in K-12, municipal, public-sector, commercial, or institutional construction is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar construction software is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and eager to grow within a collaborative team environment.
