Job Description

The Project Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the successful delivery of construction projects by coordinating field and office activities from preconstruction through project closeout.
  • Assisting with the planning, scheduling, and execution of daily construction operations to ensure project milestones and completion dates are achieved.
  • Reviewing plans, specifications, bid packages, and contractor proposals to support project execution and procurement efforts.
  • Coordinating site logistics and construction planning activities in collaboration with Project Managers, Superintendents, and subcontractors.
  • Monitoring subcontractor performance to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project quality standards.
  • Maintaining daily reports, field documentation, and project records to accurately track progress and jobsite activities.
  • Supporting the coordination and oversight of all phases of construction work to ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with clients, owners, and project stakeholders while representing the company in a professional manner.
  • Assisting with jobsite safety initiatives and verifying compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and project safety requirements.
  • Reviewing subcontractor bids, scopes of work, and project deliverables to support procurement and buyout activities.
  • Coordinating project inspections and ensuring required approvals are obtained throughout the construction process.
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with local municipalities, inspectors, and permitting authorities.
  • Managing RFIs, submittals, change orders, punch list items, and other key project documentation.
  • Preparing meeting agendas, recording minutes, and distributing project updates to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinating material procurement activities and tracking lead times to support project schedules and field operations.
  • Reviewing shop drawings and technical submissions for compliance with contract documents and project specifications.
  • Assisting with project budgeting, cost reporting, forecasting, and financial tracking efforts.
  • Supporting schedule management by updating project timelines and identifying potential risks or delays.
  • Collaborating with architects, engineers, consultants, vendors, and trade partners to resolve design and construction challenges.
  • Tracking project progress and communicating schedule, budget, quality, and risk updates to project leadership.
  • Conducting site visits and quality-control reviews to verify work is completed in accordance with plans, specifications, and company standards.
  • Assisting with project closeout activities, including turnover documentation, warranties, as-builts, and punch list completion.
  • Maintaining accurate project records utilizing Procore and other construction management software platforms.
  • Participating in owner meetings, subcontractor coordination meetings, progress reviews, and internal project planning sessions.
  • Identifying project issues proactively and working with the project team to implement effective solutions.
  • Performing additional project-related responsibilities as assigned by management.

The Successful Applicant

The Project Engineer will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to support the successful delivery of construction projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment involving multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction practices, building systems, trade sequencing, and applicable building codes.
  • Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to identify challenges and develop practical solutions.
  • Experience coordinating with subcontractors, suppliers, utility providers, inspectors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Ability to establish project goals, quality standards, and procedures while ensuring compliance with company policies and project requirements.
  • Experience monitoring project progress and supporting schedule execution to ensure key milestones are achieved.
  • Ability to identify project risks, anticipate potential delays, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining jobsite safety, quality standards, and operational excellence.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
  • 1-4 years of experience in commercial construction, project engineering, or construction management.
  • Experience supporting ground-up projects within commercial, industrial, multifamily, healthcare, education, or mixed-use sectors is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across project teams.
  • Ability to build productive working relationships with Project Managers, Superintendents, owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Experience utilizing construction management platforms such as Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar technologies.
  • Working knowledge of CPM scheduling concepts and project planning methodologies.
  • Ability to manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, meeting minutes, and project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate project records.
  • Ability to review drawings and specifications to identify constructability concerns and design conflicts.
  • Experience reviewing shop drawings and coordinating with design teams to support project execution.
  • Understanding of construction budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and financial controls.
  • Ability to maintain organized document control systems and project records.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards and construction safety best practices.
  • Self-motivated professional with the ability to learn quickly and adapt to evolving project needs.
  • Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and follow-through in all aspects of project execution.
