The R&D Engineer will support the development of cable and cable assembly solutions for customers in highly regulated industries. This role partners closely with customers, manufacturing sites, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to develop manufacturable designs, manage new product introductions, resolve technical challenges, and support successful transfer into production while ensuring quality, compliance, and profitability.

Job Description

  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to identify and mitigate risks in cable and cable assembly designs.
  • Support project reviews, quoting activities, and technical feasibility assessments.
  • Resolve technical challenges related to new product development and manufacturing processes.
  • Develop DFM reports, Design FMEAs, cost estimates, and tooling recommendations.
  • Manage cross-functional projects to achieve timeline, quality, and profitability objectives.
  • Support customer presentations and provide technical guidance on products and applications.
  • Coordinate technical input during contract review activities.
  • Work with suppliers, consultants, and external partners to support product and process development.
  • Provide technical training and support to commercial teams.
  • Support ERP and quality system documentation including BOMs, routings, and work instructions.
  • Assist with capital equipment projects supporting development and prototyping activities.
  • Drive process improvements that enhance quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

The Successful Applicant

A successful R&D Engineer should have:

  • Engineering degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in catheter assembly, cable assembly, or wire and cable manufacturing.
  • Background supporting medical devices, medical components, or regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Strong understanding of cable assemblies, connectors, materials, extrusion, molding, tooling, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience automating manufacturing or assembly processes.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and manufacturing documentation.
  • Familiarity with BOMs, routings, work instructions, PFMEA, process maps, and costing systems.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software.
  • Strong project management skills utilizing tools such as MS Project and Gantt charts.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with customers, suppliers, engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and customer-focused mindset.
