The Senior Lead Transmission Line Engineer will provide technical and project leadership for overhead transmission line projects ranging from 69kV to 500kV+. This individual will serve as a subject matter expert, manage multidisciplinary teams, maintain strong client relationships, and support business development activities.

Job Description

Technical Leadership

  • Lead engineering and design efforts for high-voltage transmission line projects.
  • Provide oversight for:
    • Transmission line routing
    • Structure selection
    • Conductor selection
    • Line optimization
    • Loading analysis
    • Foundation coordination
  • Review and approve engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and deliverables.
  • Ensure compliance with NESC, ASCE, utility standards, and applicable regulations.
  • Establish and maintain engineering quality standards.
  • Serve as a technical advisor for clients and project teams.



Project Leadership

  • Manage multiple large-scale transmission projects simultaneously.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, staffing plans, and budgets.
  • Monitor project performance and profitability.
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate activities with engineering, environmental, permitting, surveying, geotechnical, and construction teams.
  • Support project execution from conception through construction.



Client Management

  • Act as a primary point of contact for utility and energy clients.
  • Develop and maintain long-term client relationships.
  • Participate in executive-level client meetings and project reviews.
  • Provide strategic recommendations regarding transmission infrastructure investments.
  • Identify opportunities for additional services and program expansion.



Team Development

  • Lead and mentor engineering staff.
  • Conduct technical reviews and provide design guidance.
  • Support recruitment and team-building initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Assist with succession planning and leadership development.



Business Development

  • Support proposal preparation and interviews.
  • Develop project scopes and fee estimates.
  • Participate in strategic growth initiatives.
  • Assist in expanding transmission engineering services throughout the region.
  • Identify new market opportunities in utility and renewable energy sectors.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Senior Transmission Line Engineer should have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
  • 12+ years of transmission line engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading transmission projects from 138kV to 500kV+.
  • Advanced proficiency with:
    • PLS-CADD
    • PLS-POLE
    • PLS-TOWER
  • Strong understanding of:
    • NESC
    • ASCE Standards
    • Utility Design Standards
    • Industry Best Practices
  • Proven experience managing engineering teams and client relationships.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
