Job Description

High‑Voltage Substation Physical Design

  • Create or modify single‑line diagrams and general arrangements
  • Produce detailed elevations, sections, assembly details, and installation drawings
  • Develop bills of materials, bid units, and material counts



Technical & Project Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines
  • Conduct site visits for data gathering and as‑built verification
  • Write procurement and construction specifications; evaluate contractor bids
  • Support factory acceptance testing and review shop drawings for conformance
  • Verify client equipment and designs meet industry standards and best practices
  • Perform calculations: conductor and equipment sizing, rigid bus strength, insulation coordination, grounding, lightning protection
  • Generate engineering fee estimates
  • Provide field support during construction and commissioning
  • Mentor junior engineers and design staff
  • Occasional overnight travel for client meetings or site visits

The Successful Applicant

A successful Sr. Substation Engineer should have:

  • B.S. degree from an ABET‑accredited university
  • 10+ years of substation physical design experience
  • Experience working directly with clients; proposal/marketing support preferred
  • Experience managing design budgets and schedules preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without restriction
  • PE license required; ability to obtain a Texas PE within 6 months
