We are seeking a Substation Engineer III to support the design and execution of medium- and high-voltage substation projects. This individual will operate as a technical lead on engineering deliverables, collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, and serve as a mentor to junior engineers.

Our client is a nationally recognized engineering and consulting organization supporting some of the largest utility, renewable energy, and grid modernization programs across North America. Their Power Delivery team partners with investor-owned utilities, municipalities, cooperatives, and EPC organizations to deliver complex transmission and substation infrastructure projects.

With continued investment into grid reliability, load growth, renewable integration, and aging infrastructure replacement, this team is expanding to support a strong backlog of substation and transmission projects ranging from distribution voltage through EHV systems (12kV-500+ kV).

Job Description

  • Lead engineering and design execution for substation projects ranging from 12kV-500+ kV
  • Develop and review:
    • General Arrangements (GA)
    • Electrical plans and elevations
    • Equipment layouts
    • Grounding plans
    • Cable routing and conduit plans
    • Control building layouts
    • Bills of Material (BOM)
  • Perform engineering calculations including:
    • Ground grid studies
    • Equipment sizing and selection
    • Cable sizing
    • Bus calculations
    • Station service design
  • Coordinate with civil, structural, relay/P&C, transmission, and construction teams
  • Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution
  • Participate in design reviews and client meetings
  • Review junior engineer deliverables and provide mentorship
  • Support construction and commissioning efforts as required
  • Ensure designs align with utility standards and applicable industry codes

The Successful Applicant

A successful Substation Engineer III should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred
  • 5-8+ years of substation engineering experience
  • Experience delivering utility, consulting, or EPC projects
  • Knowledge of:
    • Substation design principles
    • Utility engineering standards
    • Transmission and distribution systems
    • NESC, IEEE, NEC standards
  • Strong communication and client-facing experience
  • Ability to independently manage multiple engineering packages
