They provide reliable energy solutions through investment in grid resiliency, renewable integration, and substation development, offering engineers the opportunity to work on complex, large-scale projects that support critical energy demands.Job DescriptionDesign and develop high-voltage electrical substations ranging from distribution to transmission voltage levels.Prepare engineering calculations, plans, specifications, and design packages for substation projects.Develop and review physical layouts, one-line diagrams, relay and protection schematics, grounding plans, and equipment arrangements.Perform equipment sizing and selection for transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, bus structures, and associated substation equipment.Conduct power system studies, including short-circuit, load flow, grounding, and protection coordination analyses.Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, including IEEE, NEC, NESC, ANSI, and utility-specific requirements.Coordinate multidisciplinary project activities with civil, structural, protection and controls, and construction teams.Support procurement activities by reviewing vendor drawings, technical submittals, and equipment specifications.Participate in site visits, field inspections, commissioning activities, and construction support.Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting for operational and maintenance issues.Assist with project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management activities.Prepare project documentation, engineering reports, and technical presentations.Support continuous improvement initiatives related to engineering processes, quality, and safety.MPI does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, marital status, or based on an individual's status in any group or class protected by applicable federal, state or local law. MPI encourages applications from minorities, women, the disabled, protected veterans and all other qualified applicants.The Successful ApplicantA successful Substation Engineer should have:Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.3+ years of substation engineering experience (adjust based on role level).Knowledge of electrical power systems, transmission, and distribution networks.Experience with substation physical design and protection and control systems.Familiarity with applicable codes and standards such as IEEE, NEC, NESC, ANSI, and NERC where applicable.Proficiency with engineering and design software, including AutoCAD, MicroStation, ETAP, SKM, CYME, or similar tools.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.Strong verbal and written communication skills.What's on OfferCompetitive salary ranging from $125,000 to $140,000 per year.Overtime eligibility (if applicable)401(k) with company matchMedical, dental, and vision insurancePaid time off and holidaysProfessional development and PE license supportFlexible/hybrid work optionsInterested?
