We are seeking an experienced Substation Engineer to join a growing Power Delivery team supporting high-voltage substation projects for electric utility, renewable-energy, and data center clients. This individual will contribute to greenfield and brownfield projects while coordinating with internal engineering teams, clients, equipment vendors, and construction partners.
  • Work on high-voltage substation projects up to 500 kV.

Job Description

  • Perform physical and/or protection and control engineering for high-voltage substation projects.
  • Support substation projects ranging from 69 kV through 500 kV.
  • Develop and review engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation.
  • Prepare or review:
    • General arrangements and equipment layouts
    • One-line and three-line diagrams
    • Grounding, lightning protection, and conduit plans
    • Control schematics and wiring diagrams
    • Relay, metering, and communications diagrams
    • Bills of material and equipment specifications
  • Perform calculations related to grounding, bus design, equipment sizing, AC/DC auxiliary systems, and station service.
  • Coordinate with civil, structural, transmission, distribution, and protection engineering teams.
  • Review vendor drawings and technical submittals for transformers, breakers, switches, control buildings, and other major equipment.
  • Participate in site visits, field investigations, constructability reviews, and construction support.
  • Assist with project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, proposals, and resource planning.
  • Ensure designs comply with IEEE, NESC, NEC, utility requirements, and client-specific standards.
  • Communicate directly with clients and project stakeholders to resolve technical issues and maintain project progress.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Substation Engineer should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • At least five years of experience in substation or power-delivery engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting high-voltage utility substation projects.
  • Strong knowledge of substation equipment, design practices, and applicable industry standards.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Strong written, verbal, and client-facing communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate across engineering disciplines.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for client meetings and project-site visits.
