Job Description

  • Oversees daily field operations on highway construction projects, coordinating crews, subcontractors, equipment, and material deliveries
  • Ensures work is completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with plans, specifications, and quality standards
  • Conducts site inspections, identifies issues, and implements practical solutions to keep progress moving
  • Communicates regularly with project managers, engineers, and clients to report progress and resolve challenges
  • Manages workforce productivity, assigns tasks, and maintains a strong on-site leadership presence
  • Tracks budgets, quantities, and production rates to help control costs and meet project targets
  • Enforces safety protocols and regulatory compliance, promoting a culture of safety across the job site
  • Maintains project documentation such as daily logs, reports, and field records
  • Coordinates with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery and availability of materials and equipment
  • Continuously develops technical expertise and leadership skills to handle increasingly complex projects

The Successful Applicant

  • Demonstrates proven field experience on highway or heavy civil projects, with increasing responsibility over crews, scopes, or phases of work
  • Strong understanding of roadway construction methods (grading, paving, drainage, utility coordination, MOT/traffic control)
  • Consistently delivers work safely, with a track record of enforcing OSHA standards and building a strong safety culture
  • Shows the ability to lead and motivate crews, subcontractors, and foremen to meet schedules
  • Effective problem solver who can quickly identify field issues and implement practical, cost-conscious solutions
  • Communicates clearly and professionally with project managers, engineers, inspectors, and clients
  • Solid organizational skills, including maintaining accurate daily reports, tracking quantities, and monitoring production rates
  • Demonstrates ownership of schedule and cost performance, not just task completion
  • Comfortable reading and interpreting plans, specs, and blueprints, and translating them into field execution
  • Proactive and detail-oriented, anticipating risks and addressing issues before they impact the project
  • Builds strong relationships with vendors and subcontractors to ensure reliable execution
