Job Description

  • Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for civil construction projects.
  • Review project plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and bid documents.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Analyze labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor costs to develop competitive bids.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with project managers, operations teams, and executive leadership throughout the bidding process.
  • Identify project risks and opportunities while developing pricing strategies.
  • Maintain and update estimating databases, historical cost information, and vendor relationships.
  • Prepare bid proposals and submit estimates in accordance with project requirements and deadlines.
  • Support contract negotiations and project handoff once awards are secured.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Civil Estimator should have:

  • 3+ years of estimating experience within civil construction, heavy highway, site development, utilities, or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods, project scheduling, and cost control.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and bid packages.
  • Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of public and private sector bidding processes.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred but not required.
  • Local knowledge of the New Jersey construction market is highly desirable.
