The organization specializes in transmission, distribution, substation, environmental, and construction services, helping utilities modernize the grid, improve reliability, and support growing energy demands through innovative, end-to-end project delivery.Job DescriptionServe as Engineer of Record and primary client point of contact for power delivery projects.Lead a team of 6-10 direct reports and an extended team of 30-40 engineers, designers, and drafters.Drive business development initiatives to retain existing clients and expand relationships with new utility and energy clients.Prepare, review, and seal technical calculations, reports, and construction documents.Support transmission line routing and design activities utilizing industry-standard tools.Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining engineering quality and QA/QC standards.Travel periodically to client and project sites as required.Support development of engineering and construction packages.Oversee the planning, design, and execution of transmission projects while ensuring compliance with client requirements, industry standards, and regulatory obligations.Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, forecasts, and resource plans.Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks impacting scope, quality, schedule, or budget.Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise related to overhead transmission line engineering.Stay informed on emerging technologies, industry trends, and evolving regulatory requirements.Ensure compliance with company safety programs and applicable environmental and regulatory standards.Contribute to long-term strategic planning and growth initiatives within the power delivery practice.Evaluate new business opportunities, partnerships, and market expansion strategies.Collaborate with operational, financial, and leadership teams to achieve business objectives.Represent the organization at industry conferences, utility meetings, technical forums, and professional organizations.MPI does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, marital status, or based on an individual's status in any group or class protected by applicable federal, state or local law. MPI encourages applications from minorities, women, the disabled, protected veterans and all other qualified applicants.The Successful ApplicantA successful Director of Transmission should have:Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.Demonstrated experience managing project financial performance, forecasting, and overall P&L accountability.Proven success leading engineering teams responsible for transmission line design and delivery.Strong understanding of transmission engineering principles and construction-ready design practices.Proficiency with industry tools such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, MFAD, or similar software.12+ years of experience within the electric utility, consulting engineering, or power delivery industry.Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.Strong knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards, including NESC, NEC, ANSI, ASTM, AISC, and related utility requirements.Excellent leadership, communication, client management, and business development skills.Preferred QualificationsProfessional Engineer license in California.Experience leading geographically distributed engineering teams.Established relationships with utility clients and industry stakeholders.Experience supporting large-scale transmission programs and EPC projects.Proven ability to grow teams, develop talent, and drive business performance.What's on OfferCompetitive salary ranging from $180,000 to $250,000.Opportunity to lead high-impact transmission infrastructure projects across North America.Significant influence on business growth, engineering strategy, and client relationships.Exposure to grid modernization, renewable energy integration, and large-scale transmission expansion programs.Leadership visibility with opportunities to shape the future direction of a growing power delivery practice.Collaborative culture focused on technical excellence, innovation, and career development.Interested?
