We're seeking an experienced Utility Estimator with a strong background supporting Transmission & Distribution (T&D), Overhead/Underground Distribution, and broader Power Delivery programs. This remote contract role provides estimating support for utilities and EPC partners nationwide, with 50-60% travel for site walks, substation visits, ROW assessments, and constructability reviews across active T&D projects.

Job Description

  • Develop detailed cost estimates for T&D construction projects, including:
    • Overhead distribution (4kV-35kV)
    • Underground distribution / URD
    • Transmission lines (69kV-500kV)
    • Substation civil and electrical scopes
    • Pole replacements, structure setting, reconductoring, fiber/OPGW work
  • Interpret utility construction standards, design drawings, spec sheets, and BOMs
  • Complete site walks, structure count verification, and field takeoffs across multiple states
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, T&D Engineers, Construction Supervisors, and utility stakeholders
  • Perform quantity takeoffs, crew/labor productivity analysis, equipment planning, and unit pricing development
  • Review subcontractor and vendor quotes (pole suppliers, wire vendors, civil contractors, etc.)
  • Maintain consistent estimate documentation, cost databases, and as‑bid/as‑built comparisons
  • Assist in developing RFP/RFQ responses, bid packages, and cost/constructability recommendations

The Successful Applicant

  • 3-5+ years of experience estimating utility or T&D construction projects
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Utility construction methods (OH/UG)
    • Transmission & Distribution standards
    • ROW access constraints, environmental considerations, outage scheduling
  • Proficiency in estimating software such as Bluebeam Revu, Sage Estimating, B2W, HCSS HeavyBid, or equivalent
  • Ability to interpret T&D drawings, construction packages (CPs), civil plans, and one‑lines
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and time‑management skills
  • Comfortable working remotely with nationwide travel (50-60%)
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel frequently across the U.S.
