About Our Client

We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to lead and oversee HR operations for a growing, private equity-backed organization, located in the Chicago area. Reporting directly to executive leadership, this role will serve as the senior HR leader and provide strategic and hands-on support across all human resources functions.

Job Description

  • Lead day-to-day HR operations and provide strategic guidance to leadership.
  • Manage and develop a small HR team while overseeing outsourced HR functions where appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate annual employee benefits and insurance renewal processes with external brokers and vendors.
  • Lead employee relations efforts by providing guidance on performance management, workplace concerns, and policy interpretation.
  • Oversee onboarding and offboarding programs to deliver a positive employee experience.
  • Develop and implement initiatives to improve employee engagement and retention.
  • Partner with leadership on workforce planning and organizational development.
  • Support recruiting efforts for key positions as needed and help determine when additional recruiting resources are appropriate.
  • Manage HR policies, procedures, and documentation to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • Collaborate with third-party payroll providers and other external HR partners.

The Successful Applicant

A successful HR Manager/Director should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience serving as the primary HR leader within a small or mid-sized organization.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, HR compliance, employee relations, and benefits administration.
  • Experience managing benefits renewals and working with external vendors.
  • Ability to balance strategic initiatives with hands-on execution.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
  • Manufacturing, industrial, distribution, or related industry experience is preferred but not required.
  • Union experience is not required.
