The Laboratory Technical Specialist II is responsible for receiving, testing, analyzing, documenting, and reporting results for a variety of biological assays. This role requires proficiency in conducting and interpreting the Mouse Embryo Assay (MEA), Human Sperm Survivability Assay (HSSA), Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL), and Bioburden assays.

Job Description

The key responsibilities of the Laboratory Technical Specialist are:

  • Receive, log, and process samples for MEA, HSSA, LAL, and Bioburden assays.
  • Perform assay setup, testing, data analysis, and result interpretation.
  • Accurately record, review, and report assay findings.
  • Respond to technical inquiries regarding test results and methodologies.
  • Ensure samples are properly organized, stored, and maintained according to applicable safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, databases, worksheets, and certificates of analysis.
  • Collect embryos from naturally mated rodents.
  • Generate rodent embryos using in vitro fertilization (IVF) techniques.
  • Perform embryo and sperm cryopreservation procedures.
  • Conduct quality control testing and evaluation of cryopreserved materials.
  • Perform embryo transfers using aseptic surgical techniques.
  • Maintain cryogenic inventory and monitor cryogenic storage systems.
  • Handle laboratory rodents, including restraint for procedures such as hormone administration and biological sample collection.
  • Ensure compliance with all institutional, local, state, and federal regulations governing the care and use of research animals.
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety requirements, and laboratory protocols.
  • Clean, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain equipment documentation and daily operational logs.
  • Perform routine housekeeping and maintain a clean, organized laboratory environment.
  • Monitor and support laboratory Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Serve as a team lead on designated projects or initiatives as assigned.
  • Stay current with advancements in laboratory science, reproductive biology, and related technologies.
  • Demonstrate sound technical judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

The Successful Applicant

The successful Laboratory Technical Specialist will have:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree (B.A or B.S.) or higher degree equivalent in Biological Science, Lab Animal Science, or related discipline
  • Experience: 3 years'related experience and/or training. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
  • Certification/Licensure: AALAS certification at the ALATG or above is preferred.
  • Other: Sufficient computer knowledge of databases.
  • Must possess a high level of initiative and ability to work with little supervision. Broad knowledge of biology laboratory practices
