We are seeking a Lead Transmission Line Engineer to oversee the design and execution of overhead transmission projects ranging from 69kV-500kV. This role will lead engineering efforts for major utility and renewable interconnection projects, providing technical oversight, client coordination, and mentorship to engineering teams. The ideal candidate will have strong transmission design experience, leadership capabilities, and a background supporting utility or EPC power delivery projects.

Job Description

  • Lead the engineering and design of overhead transmission line projects ranging from 69kV, 115kV, 138kV, 161kV, 230kV, 345kV, and up to 500kV
  • Oversee line routing, structure spotting, conductor selection, sag & tension analysis, and clearance studies
  • Review and approve engineering calculations, design packages, construction drawings, and technical reports
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers and designers
  • Coordinate with structural, civil, geotechnical, substation, and protection & controls teams throughout project execution
  • Support steel pole, lattice tower, monopole, and wood pole transmission line projects
  • Utilize and oversee design activities within PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, AutoCAD, and MicroStation
  • Ensure compliance with NESC, utility standards, client specifications, and applicable industry codes
  • Participate in project planning, scope development, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation
  • Serve as a primary technical point of contact for utility clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders
  • Support construction activities including RFIs, field issue resolution, and design modifications
  • Contribute to proposal development, project pursuits, and business development initiatives
  • Support renewable energy interconnection projects including solar, wind, battery storage, and generation tie-lines

The Successful Applicant

A successful Lead Transmission Line Engineer should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering
  • 7+ years of transmission line engineering experience
  • Strong experience supporting utility, consulting, or EPC transmission projects
  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD and related transmission line engineering software
  • Knowledge of transmission line design standards, utility requirements, and industry best practices
  • PE license preferred or ability to obtain
  • Previous leadership or project lead experience preferred
