Job Description

Key ResponsibilitiesCapital Raising & Investor Relations

  • Develop and execute strategies to raise equity and debt capital for affordable housing investments.
  • Build, cultivate, and maintain relationships with banks, institutional investors, insurance companies, family offices, foundations, and mission-driven capital sources.
  • Lead investor presentations, due diligence processes, and ongoing reporting.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for existing and prospective investors.
  • Identify opportunities to grow investor participation and diversify capital sources.



Affordable Housing Investments & Acquisitions

  • Source, evaluate, and structure affordable housing investment opportunities.
  • Lead acquisition efforts for LIHTC and workforce housing transactions.
  • Analyze project financials, benefits schedules, development budgets, operating pro formas, and market fundamentals.
  • Negotiate transaction terms with developers, owners, lenders, investors, and public agencies.
  • Manage transaction execution from initial sourcing through closing.



Loan Originations & Capital Deployment

  • Originate construction, bridge, permanent, and preservation financing opportunities.
  • Develop relationships with affordable housing developers, sponsors, and intermediaries.
  • Assess financing structures and recommend investment strategies.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, legal, asset management, and portfolio management teams.



Market Development & Business Growth

  • Identify new business opportunities and strategic partnerships.
  • Expand market presence within affordable housing development and finance communities.
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences and events, including AHIC, NH&RA, NCSHA, ABA, and other affordable housing and community development forums.
  • Maintain awareness of market trends, policy developments, and investment opportunities.



Leadership (Managing Director Level)

  • Provide strategic leadership for capital raising and investment activities.
  • Lead and mentor junior professionals and investment staff.
  • Contribute to organizational strategy, growth initiatives, and executive decision making.
  • Participate in Board and executive-level presentations as needed.

The Successful Applicant

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Real Estate, Economics, Business Administration, Urban Planning, Public Policy, or related field.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience for Director-level consideration; 12+ years for Managing Director-level consideration.
  • Significant experience in affordable housing finance, LIHTC investments, loan originations, investor relations, capital raising, or acquisitions.
  • Demonstrated success interacting with institutional investors and capital providers.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • LIHTC equity structures
    • Section 42 regulations
    • Affordable housing development and preservation
    • Multifamily underwriting
    • Debt and equity capital markets
    • Financial modelling and transaction structuring
  • Proven ability to originate and close complex transactions.
  • Strong presentation, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with a:
    • LIHTC syndicator
    • Affordable housing lender
    • Community development financial institution (CDFI)
    • Bank community development group
    • Tax credit investment fund
    • Institutional equity investor
  • Established network of affordable housing developers, investors, lenders, and industry stakeholders.
  • Experience raising discretionary or fund-based equity capital.
  • Experience with portfolio acquisitions, preservation transactions, and affordable housing asset management.
  • MBA, MRED, MPA, CFA, or similar advanced designation preferred.
