Job Description

  • Lead the engineering and design of overhead transmission line projects ranging from HV through EHV voltage classes
  • Develop and review transmission line routing, plan/profile drawings, structure loading trees, and construction packages
  • Perform and oversee engineering calculations related to sag/tension, clearances, structure loading, and line design
  • Utilize and review work performed in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, and related design software
  • Coordinate closely with civil, structural, geotechnical, substation, and protection & control teams
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor for junior engineers and designers
  • Support project execution including scope development, scheduling, budgeting, and quality control
  • Interface directly with utility clients, contractors, permitting agencies, and external stakeholders
  • Review vendor drawings, contractor submittals, and material specifications
  • Ensure designs comply with NESC, ASCE, and client-specific engineering standards
  • Support construction activities, field reviews, and issue resolution as needed

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline
  • 10+ years of transmission line engineering and design experience
  • Strong experience with overhead transmission projects for utilities, EPC firms, or engineering consulting organizations
  • Advanced proficiency with PLS-CADD required; experience with PLS-POLE and PLS-TOWER strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of NESC, ASCE guidelines, and utility design standards
  • Experience leading projects and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Strong communication, organizational, and client-facing skills
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or required depending on project responsibilities

Preferred Experience

  • Transmission projects ranging from 69kV through 500kV+
  • Utility consulting or EPC project experience
  • Line uprating, rebuild, and greenfield transmission projects
  • Construction support and field engineering experience
  • Experience managing schedules, budgets, and engineering deliverables
  • Direct utility client interaction and project leadership experience
