About Our Client

Our client is a nationally recognized engineering and infrastructure consulting organization supporting some of the most complex and impactful energy projects across North America. As demand for reliable, resilient, and scalable power systems continues to accelerate, they are expanding their Power Delivery team and seeking a Substation Project Engineer to support high-voltage utility infrastructure projects.

Job Description

  • Support the engineering and delivery of substation projects ranging approximately 12kV-500kV across utility and energy clients
  • Develop and review physical substation design packages, including:
    • Yard and equipment layouts
    • General arrangements, plans, sections, and details
    • Grounding and lightning protection systems
    • Control building configurations
    • Raceway, conduit, and cable routing design
    • Auxiliary AC/DC station service systems
    • Bills of materials and construction packages
  • Contribute to Protection & Control (P&C) design activities including:
    • One-line and three-line diagrams
    • AC/DC schematics
    • Relay and panel layouts
    • Equipment and wiring documentation
  • Perform engineering calculations and technical studies including grounding analysis, load calculations, and system support studies
  • Develop technical specifications and support procurement, equipment selection, and factory testing activities
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including Civil, Structural, Transmission Line, and other engineering groups to ensure integrated project execution
  • Communicate project updates and technical recommendations with internal stakeholders and external clients
  • Support project planning activities including scope development, schedules, budgets, and resource coordination
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers while helping maintain engineering quality standards
  • Operate independently while managing multiple project priorities

The Successful Applicant

A successful Substation Project Engineer should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred (or ability to obtain)
  • 3+ years of experience supporting substation project execution and design within utility, consulting, EPC, or power infrastructure environments
  • Experience supporting high-voltage utility infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with industry standards and engineering practices within transmission and distribution environments
  • Working knowledge of engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, PLS platforms, or similar tools
  • Strong communication, project coordination, and stakeholder management skills
