We are seeking an experienced and motivated Transmission Line Engineer specializing in 765kV Extra High Voltage (EHV) transmission systems to support the planning, design, engineering, and execution of large-scale transmission infrastructure projects. This role is responsible for leading technical design activities associated with overhead transmission lines, ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards, utility requirements, and project schedules.

Job Description

  • Lead engineering and design activities for 765kV overhead transmission line projects from conceptual development through detailed design and construction support.
  • Prepare and review:
    • Transmission line routing studies
    • Structure spotting and profiling
    • PLS-CADD models
    • Sag and tension calculations
    • Structure loading trees
    • Foundation loading criteria
    • Conductor and shield wire selection
  • Develop engineering packages including:
    • Plan and profile drawings
    • Structure assembly drawings
    • Stringing charts
    • Bill of materials
    • Construction specifications
  • Coordinate with civil, geotechnical, environmental, survey, permitting, and substation engineering teams.
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • NESC
    • IEEE standards
    • Utility design standards
    • Applicable state and federal regulations
  • Perform design reviews and quality checks on internal and subcontractor deliverables.
  • Support procurement activities including technical evaluations and vendor coordination.
  • Provide technical support during construction, field inspections, outage planning, and commissioning activities.
  • Participate in client meetings, project planning, and technical presentations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Transmission Line Engineer - 765kV should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of transmission line engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with 345kV-765kV transmission line projects.
  • Proficiency with:
    • PLS-CADD
    • PLS-POLE
    • PLS-TOWER
    • AutoCAD or MicroStation
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Transmission line structural design
    • Sag/tension analysis
    • Line routing and constructability
    • Foundation loading
    • Grounding and shielding principles
  • Familiarity with NESC, IEEE, ASCE, and utility standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
