The HRBP serves as a key HR resource at a 24/7 plant, supporting both operational leadership and an hourly workforce. The role is heavily focused on employee and labor relations, acting as a trusted advisor to managers on workplace concerns, policy interpretation, attendance management, performance issues, and conflict resolution.

A significant portion of the position involves working within a unionized setting, helping ensure compliance with labor agreements, addressing grievances, supporting collective bargaining activities, and fostering productive relationships between employees, leadership, and union representatives. Prior union experience is required.

Success in this role requires a hands-on HR professional who enjoys being visible on the production floor, building relationships across all levels of the organization, and balancing employee advocacy with business objectives in a high-volume operational environment.

This position is hybrid in the East Bay area. The role requires weekly third-shift coverage to ensure HR visibility and support across the facility's 24/7 operation.

Job Description

  • Serve as the primary HR resource for plant leadership and employees, providing guidance on workplace matters, policy interpretation, and employee concerns.
  • Support labor relations activities, including grievance resolution, contract administration, and collaboration with union representatives.
  • Partner with operations leaders to address employee relations issues and conduct thorough workplace investigations when needed.
  • Help ensure consistent application of company policies, attendance practices, and workplace standards across the facility.
  • Advise managers on performance management, coaching strategies, corrective action, and employee development initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with employment laws, labor regulations, and internal HR policies to minimize organizational risk.
  • Manage workers' compensation cases in partnership with internal stakeholders, ensuring proper documentation and timely resolution.
  • Assist with onboarding, offboarding, and employee lifecycle processes to support a positive workforce experience.
  • Contribute to employee engagement and retention efforts across the site.
  • Build strong relationships throughout the operation by maintaining a visible presence on the production floor and developing trust with employees at all levels.
  • Support talent acquisition and workforce planning initiatives to help meet operational and business objectives.
  • Participate in special projects and broader HR initiatives that support site and organizational goals.

  • Bring experience supporting HR initiatives within a manufacturing, distribution, logistics, or similarly fast-paced operational environment.
  • Demonstrate strong employee relations capabilities, with the confidence to navigate sensitive workplace issues and provide practical solutions.
  • Have experience building credibility with frontline employees, supervisors, and leadership alike.
  • Be comfortable operating in a unionized setting and possess a solid understanding of labor relations principles and contract administration.
  • Take a hands-on, visible approach to HR, spending time in the operation and developing strong relationships across the workforce.
  • Possess strong investigative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle complex employee matters objectively and professionally.
  • Balance employee advocacy with business priorities while maintaining sound judgment and discretion.
  • Have a working knowledge of employment law, compliance requirements, and HR best practices.
  • Be highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to coach leaders through challenging people-related situations.
  • Thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy partnering with operations leaders to drive workforce engagement and business performance.
  • Be proactive, resilient, and comfortable working independently while contributing as part of a broader HR team.
