The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing core accounting functions within the firm, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness of financial reporting. This role plays a key part in maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, and leveraging the Aderant system to manage financial operations specific to a legal environment.

Job Description

  • Manage and maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, reconciliations, and account analysis
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring deadlines are met
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and internal reports
  • Utilize Aderant to process and analyze financial data, including billing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
  • Review and reconcile bank accounts, trust accounts, and client-related transactions in compliance with legal accounting standards
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable legal/industry regulations
  • Assist with audits, including preparation of schedules and documentation
  • Monitor and improve internal controls and accounting procedures
  • Collaborate with billing, payroll, and operational teams to ensure financial accuracy
  • Mentor junior accounting staff and review their work as needed

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment
  • Hands-on experience with Aderant (or similar legal accounting software) required
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Experience with trust accounting and legal billing processes is highly desirable
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
