Making the American Dream come true…

In September 2016, I started as a Recruitment Consultant for our Page Personnel operations in London.

I had always wanted to work in New York but never thought it was possible for visa reasons, so when I found out PageGroup has international offices, I immediately asked whether I could transfer eventually to the US. My Manager and HR explained I had to work with Page for at least two years before being able to make such a move.

So, my goal was clear. I worked super hard so that they would transfer me come my 2-year anniversary. In the meantime, I had my first promotion to Senior Consultant in May 2017. Back then, I recruited candidates in the Accounting & Finance function.

A bit over a year later, I was finally given the opportunity that I waited and worked for: I moved to New York City in September 2018 and was promoted to Managing Consultant. It was actually also perfect timing in my personal life to make such a move. Within this role I’ve been recruiting in the areas of Legal Business Development and Marketing & Communications across the US, which I really enjoy!

Moving to a different country definitely brings a few changes. The main cultural shock for me was the work style that differs strongly between the UK and the US. I very much like the specialty that I recruit for now, and I’m looking forward to developing my career in the US. International experience truly broadens your skillset, and you get to learn from new obstacles you face. I also found that my British accent is a great conversation starter, as many people have been asking where I’m from, and are curious about my background.

Overall, this international move couldn't have gone any smoother. The support I got within PageGroup was amazing: my visa process was fluid, the moving company was brilliant, and all my colleagues who welcomed me into the NYC office – it was great! I couldn't recommend Page enough. It was the best decision I ever made! Opportunities are countless.
